Hey everyone! Thanks for asking all your questions, I've finally answered them here:

Q: How long did it take you to get to your current standard of artwork?
A: About 4 years. Although in my opinion, it's not time that matters - it's attitude. With the right attitude to your art you can improve and reach a higher standard faster. It's all about the mind. ;)

Q: How old were you when you started drawing/making art?
A: Well, I've been drawing all my life, but I only started taking it seriously when I was about 14.

Q: How long does it take for you to draw a full picture?
A: Ahh, that's a really tough one for me to answer. ^^ ;; I tend to go off and come back to drawings, and I work slower when I'm not happy with the picture. At a rough guess I would say about 5+ hours for a full painted digital piece such as this one.  Traditional art varies more because I tend to do that at college as well. I've never actually timed myself drawing.

Q: What artists/TV shows/comics etc helped influence your art style?
A: Oh gosh, another difficult one. XD;; Well, as you can probably tell there is still a strong anime influence in my drawings (as much as I'm trying to get rid of it), and earlier on I was inspired by Sailor Moon. Now, however, I'm aiming for a more disney-esque look, because I just love everything about the style and animation. I don't really have the time to watch much TV or read comic books, as much as I'd love to… so the rest of my style comes from my head. I know this sounds creepy, but I have a tendency to look at people, pick out what I like about their faces and think about how I can reproduce that on paper in a stylised way. I am the ULTIMATE CREEP. :iconheplz:

Q: What's your favourite software?
A: Paint Tool SAI, by far. I've used other art programs - Photoshop, Corel Painter and occasionally ArtRage, but in my opinion SAI is superior. It has fantastic tablet support, a great range of brushes and blending options that replicate real paint very well. It's just so smooth and pleasant to draw with - whereas other programs I've found to be sort of.. lumpy and difficult. XD I don't know how to describe it.

Q: How did you manage to come up with a custom design for human GLaDOS?
A: Ahh, another toughie. Basically, I just went with trial and error. As you've probably noticed, I keep tweaking my designs - and that's why. To be honest, I'm still not happy with them myself. But really you have to look at her original self and have a good understanding of her personality. It should then be relatively easy to have a vague image of what you think she'd look like in a humanoid form. And you can also think of particular features she has as a robot and find a way to show that on a human - an easy example would be that GLaDOS has a yellow optic - so it would make sense to give her human form yellow eyes.

Q: What brands of traditional media do you use?
A: Okay, my all-time-favourites are my Letraset Promarkers. I've never tried any other brand of markers so I don't have anything to compare them to - but they serve me well. They're expensive - but definitely worth it, if you do a lot of traditional art. c:
Sometimes I use watercolours - and the ones I use are cheap and crap and absolutely not stolen, but they are these. They're not bad though. Not that I have the time to use them that often anymore. :c
I tend to use cheap mechanical pencils, and Pilot fineliners.

Q: How do you shade hair?
A: Oh God, I'm terrible at explaining things like this, but I'll try. I make my GLaDOS' hair look extra-shiny by adding a darker patch right underneath the bright highlights - which increases the contrast and gives a slightly metallic feel. So it kind of goes normal colour -> highlight -> shadow -> normal colour. Another cool little trick is adding really fine white (or just a lighter shade than normal for a character with darker hair) streaks into the hair - which just adds to the depth and gives the impression of flyaway hairs. That probably doesn't make sense at all, but I'll try to make a tutorial about it soon because I get a lot of people asking that.

Q: Why do you like Portal?
A: Haha, oh I could write such a long list for this… but I'll try to sum it up in a paragraph.
I love the whole storyline and the atmosphere of the games, and I love that it relies more on the puzzle aspect rather than a 'let's shoot everyone' game. I absolutely adore the characters, I think they are all extremely deep and you can really feel empathy for them. I especially love GLaDOS, because her story is tragic and she is just perfect - she's psychotic, harsh and scientific, and she's hilarious. I also love Wheatley, because he's just so perfectly imperfect. He's funny, cute, and awkward - and at the same time he's kind of a douchebag.  I love that the main characters are A.I.s, and that they're so different from humans.. and I love the facility and it's whole sterile atmosphere. And behind that I love the basic human feelings buried deep beneath the walls - in Rattmann's dens and the ruins of the facility, that make you realise that other humans were here and they suffered… I'm not so good with words, but really they are just fantastic games. ^^''

Q: What college courses do you take?
A: I'm currently studying A2 level Maths, Physics and Psychology. I think Psychology is the only one I'll pass, because as much as I love Maths and Physics, I'm terrible at them. Numbers don't come naturally to me, but I really enjoy problem-solving.

Q: How did you get to your current standard of art? Any advice?
A: Practice, practice, practice, and a bit more practice. Oh, and some practice.
If you want to improve, you have to be extremely self-critical. It really gets you down, and annoys other people, but it works. I've been called things like a 'self-demoting bitch' before, but in the end I'm the one that's laughing because I've improved my work from it. In the words of GLaDOS: 'You just have to look at things objectively. See what you don't need anymore, and trim out the fat.' :trollface:
It's important to be able to take critique - and not just pull the "it's not wrong - it's my style" excuse. If it looks wrong to somebody else, then it probably is wrong. And also, not being afraid to make drastic changes, or take risks. I'm still learning to be more adventurous, but I'm hoping it will be beneficial to me. c:
I never went to art school - the highest education I've had in it was GCSE two years ago - but to be honest it was wasted because I had the whole 'I don't need to learn anything or draw from real-life models because I draw ANIME' mentality. Now, I would kill for real-life models. XD; So yeah, basically I taught myself. ^^'

Q: Can I use your GLaDOS and other Portal designs?
A: Of course you can! I really love it when people draw my designs, so you don't even need to ask permission. And that goes for cosplay, too. Credit's not required, but is appreciated, and feel free to link me to what you've done! I love to see them, even if it does take me several years to get through my messages. XD

Q: Do you play other games than the Portal series?
A: Well, not really. I've played some of Half-Life (mostly the first one, but bits of the others), but to be honest I'm terrible at them. Whenever an alien/army guy/combine/whatever the hell else comes at me I tend to scream, panic and run away until I die (to be fair I'm like that with the turrets in Portal, but I have developed an amazing tactic of hiding behind the cube and scuttling up to them until I knock them over… either that or the suicide run). :T But I have watched my brother play through all the Half-Life games, so I'm pretty well-versed in them. Gordon Freeman is my God, and I shall worship him. :heart:

Q: Where is your journal skin from?

A journal inside a journal? INCEPTION

~~~
That's it; I hope you found that interesting/informative, and if you have any more questions just comment on this journal, maybe I'll add to it.
Thanks for your participation! Now, back to my Psychology homework, which I have absolutely not been neglecting for the past hour in lieu of writing this. ._________.
Do you know anywhere I might be able to purchase those markers online? I use Copics and Prismacolours myself, but it's always nice to add to my collection!
